Howdy, i really appreciated going thru yor recipies for some more ideas to play with, thankyou You got allot of links and that's great too, gotts say though, u groovers didn't seem to go into the ethics, spirituality or even grass roots realities of raw foodism, like just what your (as group or community) define as the raw food experience. I would've liked to have known that before i looked tthru your site. The pictures of the finished products are bootyfull, i reckon they may encourage others, how can one say no to watermelon and foos cut, sliced, diced and presented so deliciously. Thanx again, a fellow raw foodian, Danielle

i want to comment about Quintessence, which -- although it is obviously a very pure restaurant -- has some 'drawbacks'. the first being that it is very expensive, and the second being that the portions are miniscule. also the restaurant is very tiny, which isn't bad; it is easy for it to be packed though. most of the food is good, although [even in modesty] i would say my raw middle eastern food is much better. i.e. pick something else on the menu ... and eat before you go. other than those cavils [can this word be plural?] it is nice to be served [and no kitchen clean-up] raw organic food. there is another restaurant four blocks lower [i.e. 6th street instead of 10th, or vice versa] that has some raw food, is organic, has pretty big portions, and is delicious. all i can figure is that people in the city are richer than i and on diets? love, sun~rose

LMAO! Always send the check back to be re-added. Just criticize huh, if the waiter asks how the food is! Tell them you a Dr. when your making reservations. What the fuck kinda advice are you giving you moron. I guess i should have them call a priest to pray over the food. You DMF! Man does anybody agree with me or is this a joke. Please post a reply, i hope i am realistic about this j.r. restaurant etiquette, what a bunch of crap! You should be ashamed of yourself who ever posted this. Its so ignorant and unrealistic i can't see how you even live with yourself going to a resturant!

Talk about unrealistic garbage LMFAO :) I worked in some of the finest and elegant resturants around and i must say your philosophy is a bit extreme and eccentric. I had preconcieved notions when coming to this guestbook. On one hand, I was really emotional that day, or this day, because it's today now, but won't be tomorrow, which will then become today, and on the other hand, I was stoic to the very core, having to defend my pride against teh onslaughts of happiness which it gave me, eradicating the image that society created for me. The dull writer, the depressed writer, the reclusive writer. None of it fit when I was in a three mile radius (at least!) of your guestbook. Don't let me go without kissing me goodbye, it wouldn't be right or fair. I almost feel like it's happening again. Oh, this guestbook of yours...

Hello Matt, I used to be a raw-fooder and used to have various copies of Edmonds books. I've been asked by the local Unitarian Universalist community to give a talk/sermon on the Essenes. The Gospel of Peace comes to mind. Can I get a copy from you? Also, you're not sure that he (the author)actually translated from the Dead Sea Scrolls stored somewhere in or under the Vatican? It didn't dawn on me to question his statements of doing just this. Just wondering if you had any more thoughts regarding this. Thanks, dennis.

Cool to find all these recipes, I just love RAW FOOD, since I started eating 70 % RAW, it has become more and more. I almost don't eat anything else than RAW FOOD anymore, and I can not tell you how good and clean I feel. I lost weight and I am so full with energy. I have had weight problems all my life and because I'm a dancer, I did the most strict diet one can imagine, going so far that at one point I wasn't eating anything anymore, and then a girlfriend told me about Natural Hygienist. Well a fascinating new world opened for me, first I started with good food combining and now I don't need to worry about my weight and I can EAT and I don't need to worry about my health because I feel that what I eat is the most healthy one can do. Thanks for making this page is my all time favourite RAW FOOD site. Thanks Ferdy

I am trying to find a copy of survival into the 21st century. I am also trying sprout therapy. I react violently to many of them. My tongue burns and my throat has small spasms. I realize that this is probably an allergic reaction. Can this be overcome by using rejuvelac or something like that to strenthen my digestive system first ? Also in your book you mentioned that vinegar was not good. Does this apply to vinegar that is organic and unheated? Some people have claimed that it has helped them to have stronger stomach acids if it is not the processed variety of vinegar.

Hi everyone! I'm brand new to this site. I just hit my first message that said "Must see..." and got a look at Joanne B. What a great way to get my blood pumping first thing in the morning. I just want everyone to know that I am expert in helping people to greatly lengthen their life spans and in helping people to make their bodies young again through diet and exercise. I believe that I can help 90% of the people who follow my advice to live past 200 years now. So, my research in this area is just beginning. I have no doubt that in less than 10 years of research I will be helping people to live past 400 years old. So I hope that I can help some open-minded, peace loving people, with the outlook of children to do so. Greater Peace & Blessings To You All, Tony Terry

OOOOHHHH!!!! I want to go raw for atleast some of my diet since, as a vegan, I would be getting better nutrition, but I thought doing so would mean that I would have to stick to plain, uninspiring, "unprocessed" fruits and veggies:( This site makes me drool, and I am not even hungry!! It also makes me excited knowing that I can have enjoyable, creative, and exciting raw food, instead of just dipping broccoli and carrot spears in raw miso dressings.... Forget printing all of the recipies! I want the book! This site and Rhio's book have got me so excited! I can't wait until I go grocery shopping again! They also make me hopeful in that by eating more fulfilling foods I can give up wheat, gluten, sugar and other foods that make me feel unwell. Then I won't feel that I am depriving myself of enjoyment when I eat! Yay!!!!:)

That makes quite a statement that an heir to a vast fortune in big business in America would renounce his inheritance, let alone take up causes & go against the grain with how we do things in society. Now, who would have ever thought???He's lucky the stage has been set for it well in advance, plus he goes about it positively to get results, which is harder for (I still think) most of us not naturally orientated as such as people. But, yes, it works. I can see how it would make the author of this review on the book would read it for that reason alone. Maybe it will get the rich to think more about the driving ambitions of their work lives & lifestyles.

I found you through the living-foods web site. My interest is organic gardening (I am a pretty good gardener for many years), improving my food intake (I am starting a juice fast) and have been mostly raw vegetarian the last three months, and now that I am age 60, I am really concerned about having a disease free and healthy life. The hard part is an active social schedule that forces me to be in situations where you are obligated to order drinks or food in a restaurant/bar venue. I enjoy checking out all the information that is available. Do you offer a chat site and/or do you send new information to people on your list? Barbara

God Bless you and your son. I am trying to learn and change my old eating habits. This is after going through radiation therapy for tongue cancer. Strange, Yes, I'am now 37 years old and hope that my children's diet is much healthier than mine. I believe that a raw food diet is the best thing for our body. Norman Walker's books are my bible. It's very hard with 3 & 8 year olds. Constantly being brain washed with junk food advertisements. I'd love to hear from anyone who has any good advise. Regards, Cristina

Hi, Bob: Just found your webpage! Had no idea you played chess. My spouse USED to be quite a player. No competition, though. One year I got him one of those hand-held computer chess games (before the days of pc's)and he became so obsessed with it, it REALLY cut into our family life: the kids were all young and at home them. Finally, it dawned on him, and he put it away somewhere. One year our two sons got him a large ornamental set made in Singapore. It made a nice centerpiece and I kept it on a large coffee table and hoped he'd one day teach me how to play. Lost track of the chess set, and am still waiting to learn how to play;-) Same thing with Bridge. g ps: When I met him Ray was also an avid Bridge player and told me not to bother learning as to become really good required complete dedication of time and concentration. I decided when I got too old to be outside doing more active things I'd consider learning how.

Hi, I'm wondering if you are the same Jay whom I met in 1992-1993 in Malibu, CA at the home of Peter Huber. that jay also had a publication entitled "all raw times" of which I have a copy. it was then a newsletter format. If you are the same Jay...what a coincidence! if not , sorry for the annoyance. Nice web site. i enjoyed the article on distillers. King B. Lauter Santa Ana, Costa Rica

Im looking into this raw food thing because I have always believed that food is a major cause of disease. I like movements like this; which can only help and cannot hurt. I am also sure that vegetarianism and consequently raw foodism have suffered deliberate setbacks by the destructive meat industry. In the name of efficiency alone, I fully endorse the premise of raw foodism and look forward to its inevitable growth in the near future. People starve today while cows consume enough food to feed countless more families than there soon to be dead carcasses ever can. I was turned on to the idea by a girl I met on the bus. She has been raw for a few years and had an apparently painless delivery when she birthed her son this year. What really drew my attention was the intelligent gleam in this 10-week-old infant's eye.this year. What really drew my attention was the intelegent gleam in this 10-week-old infant's eye.

This is such a wonderful site. A real touchstone for all Raw Foodists and those moving towards that perfect diet. Does anyone who is a raw foodist have any suggestions regarding how to deal with breast cancer on the raw food diet? I got a condition and started in January on an 80%-90% raw diet. Then in June I went to 100%. In late July and early August I started back on adding some cooked vegetables to my diet. Last week I went off and ate bagels and cream cheese, some muffins, donuts. I'm paying for it now. I'm back on 100%. I guess I was frustrated at the slow rate of my healing. And I've been getting intense cravings for meat, which I haven't had in 3 years. I'm using Essiac tea, which is a great detoxer; flax seed oil, and Hulda Clark's type of "parasite zapper." CoQ10 seems to help the pain, too. The trouble is, I've made mistakes with this whole thing, had things I found out were really bad for my condition, such as olives and vinegar. The WORST thing ever was, when I was eating 80%-90% raw, I ate tofu for a week. It made me feel wonderful, and then my condition got three times as bad! It's really to bad, because I had been eating a lot of grapefruit and my condition was actually waning. NEVER AGAIN! I can't take fruit that is very sweet, either, it really aggravates the tumor. I don't know if just doing raw is going to do it. Maybe it just takes a lot longer than I thought. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I guess I feel all alone out here. I'm out of work right now and can't afford a naturopath or any unconventional practitioner. Thank you for listening! Love and Blessings to All. - Barbi

I am a native born Roman Catholic who has seen his share of struggle.I don't mean to say a stuggle as to outward extremes, but rather an inward conflict which led me to introspect. I wandered away from the faith at an early age and suffered because of it. I am a retired U.S. navy man ( only 3 stripes ) with paranoid schizophrenia and I live in a veterans home. I have read good and (unfortunately bad commentary on The Bible). The bad was due to my naivete and mental illness. I love this sort of good and wholesome stuff and plan to study it more. Thanks for your work.

Mr. Ellis, Please tell me that your coloumn on Restaurant Etiquette was a stupid, sarcastic, joke. Please. I work in a restaurant and just want to let you know that the servers have more power over the rude, "get the fuck outta my restaurant," customers than you know. You think it's funny to do that kinda shit when you come into a restaurant, think twice--before you find yourself sprinting to the bathroom with exposive diarreah from the Visine that the server has put in your water/coffee/soda/beer. I'd like to read specif articles. Could you make a subscription possible for past articles with a price on each one with a click and a password. Perhaps you could price them based on the cost of printing and mailing. A great expose with attitude and a cosmopolitan peer group of health nerds. I need a real job but my wish list is to get paid for my favorite study in health and raw foods and organic gardening which I'm just starting. It is hard to work at minimum wage at a job with people without my interests. All my extra time is spent with this avocation. I'd love to find a job in it. Also meet a companion who thinks like I do.

I'm currently a cooked-food vegan thinking of going raw. I'm accustomed to the endless growing seasons of my native California but now I'm living in Columbus, OH. I need some advice on how to eat raw on a very limited budget in the Midwest. Also, are there any raw people living in Central Ohio you know of? Jen (614) 299-4259

I am 95% on raw food. It will be a year in August 2001. I am relocating to NYC between September and December I was looking for support groups and restaurants. There is not a lot avaibale in Detroit, MI. When I located your website through Rawtimes. I was very excited. i ca not wait taste the food and visit your restaurant. It is good to be around people that can teach me more about raw food and preparing raw food. Maybe I can bring back some knowledge and help more people of Michigan become aware of Raw food. Thank you for making my relocation to New York a lot easier. ginene

Can anyone out there help me find a parts supplier for a Nutri-Flow food dehydrator? Our heating coil is no good, and I have searched in vain for a dealer for this product. Thank-You! There is an address of; Box 389,McMinnville, OR, 97128. This is from a gold sticker on the side of the dehydrator. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated!

I hope people had a great time at the 2001 Portland Raw & Living Foods Festival. As a member of the steering committee, I'm happy to say that I lost 4 inches off my waist & about 10 pounds, in spite of eating all the raw and living foods I wanted, including durian and young coconuts and organic local cherries and strawberries and raspberries.

My name is Ricardo Ferreiro. I was concieved in Spain and born six months later in Australia. Being a predominantly Anglo/Celtic culture my last name has always been mispronounced here. To correct or counter this I have devised an incorrect spelling of my last name Ferreiro, which approximates more intimately the right sounding out of the proper Spanish pronunciation of the word Ferreiro. The word I use is comprised of 3 small words that read: FUR, RAY AND RAW. Pronounced at once together, they form the unified sound of my proper spelt Spanish name: FURRAYRAW. This makes me happy. Mr Fur has only this one true end, his radiant middle and beginning without end. Love to all 3 of you. kind regards mr fur.

I have just purchased an oscar juicer and wheatgrass growing kit. I have been taking 30ml of wheatgrass a day for one week. I have not detoxted and would so love to get what ever info I can to do this safely. I would be quite happy to be a vegetarian as meat has never really done it for me anyway. I am 33 and would like a lifestyle change. I do yoga and am now seeking out to learn to meditate properly. If you can recommend any good reading to get me started properly I would be greatful. Hello to all young single male raw foodists between the ages of 28 to 35. I have recently become a 100% RAW FOODIST AND I am seeking a young attractive, funny and spiritual man who shares the same interests and values that I have. I assure you, that I am an attractive 25yr old who has had her share of humbling experiences at a young age. My determination to find the correct path to vital health and wellness has lead me to the raw path and I am looking forward to sharing this path with a friend/soulmate who is just as passionate about what life will now offer. I live in Winnipeg MB (CANADA) but I am determined to live in a warm climate where I can easily enjoy all the fresh fruits and vegetables nature has to offer all year round. I possibly will be taking a trip to Florida in mid July and would like to experience as many raw food restaurants and activities as I can. I will be traveling with my uncle (SAD) eater but he would at least be open to new ideas and foods. If you are single, honest and have the confidence to see yourself as a great catch, maybe we may have the chemistry that we have both have been searcing for. Lovely and single, Tanya

Just passing through the site and enjoying reading some of the comments. I'm 75% raw and still eat too much junk food, which frustrates me a little. I was inspiresd by Karen Knowler andthe Fresh Network in the UK (I'm English, living in the US for a couple of years); I got in touch with KK and never looked back. I am totall convnced that Raw Vegan diet is what our bodies will do best on but like many others I am addicted to cooked food and I'm too easily influenced by the smell of cooked food. Still, I have made the transition from a heavily meat biased diet to being 100% vegetarian, mostly vegan (some cheese still slips in) and 75% raw.

read you revieve and agree with you. I have been a raw fooist and juiceitarian now for about 6 weeks and just trying to find as many people as possible to give testimony to the fact that we were only need raw fruits and vegetables and their juices for optmum health. Most everyone I know thinks of me as an extremeist they think I'm a nut. They totally disagree with me and there is no sence to even discuss it with them because thir minds are closed. It would seem that most people seem to believe that we have been living for years on meat and bread and cooked vegetables. I say to them "not living only existing in poor health" caron

It's wonderful to see that you have a web page. I wasn't sure I could find you again. I first found your books in a small used book store in Vancouver, BC, back in 1977, and I have been an advid follower ever since. I was a member of the Biogenic Society for several years, and then as life will often do, my path took a curve and pulled me in another direction. I was going through some of my book boxes and came across some of your literature. Where are you now located? Now that I'm retired, I would enjoy visiting. Thank you

Nice getting a little aquainted with you. I,m 48 and have been moving toward healthier eating for about 5 years (on and off again vegan). I like to tell people that my husband and I had a simultaneous mid-life crisis about 5 years ago and left suburban life to join an amish Communitie. It was interesting but glad we're out. Now we have four acres that we are doing with what you talked about. Four acres is proving a lot for us to take care of. We are putting in about 5,000 strawberries plants and truck patch a half acre of corn. We have friends who live the lifestyle you describe (non amish). You might find Wendell Berry a stimulating writer. Also, if you haven't read "A Garlic Testament" look it up at the library and be inspired by others who have gone before. Nice site. Good Afternoon. It was suggested that I find and read the Gospels of Peace and that is what brought me to your site. I was informed that there are one or two books online however I have yet to locate them. Perhaps you may be able to help direct me to the appropriate sites. Your review is interesting although I find it does not provide much detail on the Gospels themselves leaving the reader with no more information than when they came in. I say this with respect and hope it is taken with such. Thank you for sharing........Peace and Be Well. :)

Hi again J.R. - Haven't signed your guestbook since back in 1997, so imagine it's time to let you know that this raw fooder still appreciates all you've done for the cause over the years. Congratulations and keep up the good work! Finally hit the quarter century mark, with 25 years all raw, so guess it's not too bad a life-style. Been married since 98 to a wonderful lady, who I first met, through David Wolfe, in Hawaii, and who has been all raw, too, ever since she heard the truth and moved to the mainland. She'd taught vegan cooking for some years, was once a natural food store owner, so her switch to all raw foods came fairly easily. We have a wonderful young man (7) for our son, who, like his older brother and sister, Eric and Catherine: http://www.rawfood.com/ryan.html and http://www.novica.com/wander_woman/ww_bio.cfm is also being raised on all fresh uncooked (real) foods, as well. My bride creates fabulously colorful and tasty gourmet dishes every single day, and rarely, with the possible exception of standard fruit soups (smoothies), do we have the same meal twice. So never let it be said that going all raw is necessarily dull and/or boring. Far from it! :) Aside from shopping at Farmers' Markets around the country (we are quite nomadic, traveling about the U.S., Canada and Alaska almost constantly), we advocate growing your own food whenever possible. When we want some extra curricular treats, we just drop in at Asian markets and pick up some fancy digressions into the exotic fruits of distant tropical lands, such as Durian, Jack Fruit, Bread Fruit, Mamay, Longan, Lyche, and varieties of Mangos and young Coconuts, to mention a few readily obtainable favorites. Great accents for raw food aficionados living near such Oriental markets. We've found that, while unbelievably fun, eating raw is far beyond just a health measure. It's truly a spiritual path - hardly one of a Panacea nature, but surely a trail towards sounder and more rapid personal evolution - and character development. We'd suggest that, rather than an end in itself, the consumption of raw (natural) foods is merely an essential step towards normalizing the body - and its brain - so that we can honestly have some control over our personal development (since the addictive character of cooked fare inevitably clouds both the mind - and, therefor, one's spirit, also). While this philosophy may sound elitist, it is not. Weren't we all once cooked food addicts? And, in truth, aren't some of the most evolved souls to inhabit the Earth slaves to that painful addiction? But why select to climb the steep side of the "sand dune of life?" Why not live in more harmony with nature's Laws? Why not elect the more stable and sure "slopes," instead? We'd enthusiastically claim that this more gentle and sure "raw" slope, if you will, is the choice that can significantly help one develop a more disease-free and healthy body vehicle for our souls' journey through earthly times. Hang in there, J.R., and keep the Site alive and well! Thanks, ric and family

I stumbled upon this site after reading about fruitarianism in a "Yoga for Idiots" book. This site is, needless to say for everyone who's already been here and "gotten on the boat" to a healthy lifestyle, very informative. As my email might suggest, I play soccer and would like to get in better shape by eating healthier... Not necessarily becoming a full fruitarian, but a vegan or something along those lines. This site gave me more information to help make that lifestyle change. Thank you and God bless.

I'm very interested in a living foods lifestyle, but I live in a small town with one health food store whose only customers are the (maybe) 10 vegetarains in this town. I'm going away to college in Charleston next year, away from my parents and their affinities for icecream, chips, and fast food, so hopefully I'll have the willpower to stick to a raw diet. I'd like to get some information on how to start a living food regime, so if any of y'all can give me some advice, please email me at leslie_925at hotmama dc. I've been vegetarian for 6 years, vegan off and on, and I am ready to make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle (including yoga) and losing those stubborn extra pounds (about 25). I'd appreciate any feedback. God's peace. ~Leslie Marie

I'm not really sure how a raw food list operates. Do people just write in their bios and then e-mail each other privately if they wish? I'd like to learn more about how raw foodists interact on the internet. Chat rooms? Other raw food lists? I'm kinda lonely up here in cattle country. Thankyou for the great web site!! Best Regards------Jim

What an inspiration to tour your website! I hope I may enjoy the real thing one day as much as I enjoyed the photos. Do you have a cookbook or share recipes? Any words of encouragement to someone who is just getting started(raw since March 2001) and does not have a huge support system in their small community? I have a group of people from the local raw food community trying to get me to take over a juice bar/sandwich/soup type restaurant which has been in business for seven years. It's a family business and the owners are burned out. They have built a pretty steady group of customers. I love the creativity that eating raw brings out of me as well as how I feel. A restaurant seems like a lot to take on for someone not quite adjusted to the raw foods regimethemselves. I suppose an array of recipes would help me get started. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Leslie(Kutsch)Crisp

I am 45 years old. Was a strict vegetarian for 20 years. 80% raw foods. Had 3 children. The first two children lived 80% raw for the first 12 years of their life. The last child lived 3 years on 80% raw. We have drifted away from the diet for the last 5 years. Totally miss it and now we are coming back to it. Have alot of wonderfully stories to share some day about our diet.

Hi, My friends call me "Fruitbat".I went 100% raw for 3 months, until I yielded to family pressure. Now I regret it enormously. Two years ago I quit smoking (>50pd) and coffee (>15cupspd). Now I am tackling the biggest addiction of all- denatured "food"(which I will achieve within the year). I am on the look out for other 100% raw food eaters to keep in contact with for support. It is hard not to feel like a social reject when you are surrounded with a society of meat eating coffee drinkers. I say if you're going to eat living foods, you might as well have living friends too. I would appreciate greatly, any tips or advice whatsoever in regards to transferring from a highly refined diet to a 100% raw food diet.Particularly tips to reduce to effects of detox. Please e-mail me if you'd like at fruitbat_007at hotmama dc. Thanks.

I am interested in the raw foods only to eat-I have been vegetarian about 4 years and total vegan about 1 year-I gave up refined sugar about a year ago also and feel great at 48 yrs almost everyday! occasional arthritis flare up in hip is only complaint-I really feel like my feeling so good has to do with my diet and I want to try and go "all raw". I read a "Raw cookbook" recently and became intrigued with the idea of all raw and the nutritional value of raw foods as opposed to cooked foods. I must admit that I had never even thought that cooking destroys nutrients. I look forward to learning more from your web site and I thank you very much! Nancy Bellande,RN

I have not eaten red meat for over 20 years, fish or chicken for 5. I gave up all dairy for a year, but went back to it with a passion. Only to lose my health and to gain more weight. July 8,2000 I went raw. I have lost 80 lbs. With only afew minor health issues, and I am getting better every day. I feel better today then I did 25 yrs ago. I can keep up with my teen age grandchildren. Love living raw. Pat

Rainbow Greetings, Gee, that watermelon was so delicious to look at my mouth began to drool. I went an e-mail to Oprah's producers two weeks ago suggesting that Oprah do a challenge of saving 1 million turkeys from slaughter by having families sign up to have a fruitarian day for Thanksgiving. Maybe your members would like to back me up by e-mailing that suggestion individually also? Who knows what we may achieve? Perhaps the Mad Cow disease may make people think about becoming vegetarians. I lead a group and though I have been following Yogic Sattwic Foods, most of the group are hard and fast meat eaters. However I shall still plod along with my suggestions of having fruit for Good Friday, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Rainbows of Peace, Love and Goodwill to you all and keep up the good work. Pamela
