I am transitioning to 90% raw and looking for a Super Blue Green Algae distributor! (This is the algae that Viktoras Kulvinskas recommends. I used to use it and it is very good, but I lost touch with my old sponsor and need to sign up again!)

I am interested in the healing and preventative properties of eating raw and living foods. I have never lasted very long on a raw food diet and would like to know how others have done it longer than 8 days.

Also, my best friend has a fibroid tumor that makes her look like she's six months pregnant. I am seeking information that could help her, before she agrees to a complete historectomy

I am new to the raw foods concept, but in three weeks I have lost twenty pounds and feel much better then I have on any other diet or eating plan I have ever tried. This way makes so much sense and just feels right, for me anyway. Keep spreading the word! It can be a hard path to follow by yourself in the face of skeptical and unbelieving friends and family. But so far I think the gains are and will be worth it.

During a couple of months, I was writing letters to a friend who is suffering from cancer. I tried to convince him to eat more raw food, and I was able to change just a little bit his nutrition habitudes. These letters are based on experiences made by myself and by my wife. If you are interested in them, I can translate them into a rudimental english. Best regards Werner Aufschnaiter, I-39100 Bozen, St.-Anton-Strasse 2a phone 0039 0471978683

I have been making a slow but strong transition to the raw food diet since the summer of 1999. Already I have largely recovered from Hashimoto's Disease, a severe form of thyroid failure. My levoxyl dosage is now less than half of the strengh I first took in 1994! When I visit my doctor, every half-year, he has to keep on prescribing a continuously weaker dosage! I am also recovering from clinical obesity. Two years ago I was 232 pounds! I am now 179 pounds and on my way down to my 'Natural Human' weight of perhaps 160 pounds. I shall have to see if I permanently become a 100% Raw Food eater. Due to the greed, lies and folk ignorance that uphold Cooked Food eating, I refuse to eat less than 80% Raw. Raw Foodism has also given me the strength to joyously switch from being a lacto-ovo vegetarian to a Raw Vegan. I am also tackling the "caffeine monstor" that has had me in its grips for over a decade. I am weaned off coffee (easier said than done) and now actually prefer the flavour of sweetened gunpowder green tea each morning. Soon I shall "need" and desire no more than water or oranges each morning. In short, I have switched from being a high-school bread addict, who looked like a 35 year old man, to a college student who actually looks his age. Bread is the staff of illness and mediocrity, raw foods allows us to run strong and free! I am currently a 90% Raw Foodist, slowly moving towards 100% Raw Foodism to feel the experience.

Dear Heide: I don't know how often you check this, but you might recognize your New York cousin. I am often awake late at night and I manage to do make-up work and some of my best follow-ups on correspondence. I can't recall now how I succeeded in finding your "site" (I had searched once or twice before). But, here you are and here I am. Have you started teaching yet? It's amazing how much time one can spend online. I force myself to walk away after a maximum of two hours. Good saying "hello"; much success. Anne

I'm really new at this raw food thing. I'm trying to avoid sugar, salt (except Bragg's), white flour and meat/fish. My big problem is coming up with a tasty salad dressing for all the greens I'm eating. I'm wondering about Good Season's packaged mix, if it's ok to use.

Hai, Lucidity, I've read the books of David Wolfe, Paul Nison and Stephen Arlin about raw foods and their 'Nature's first law'. I d'like to go on raw but I'm married and I've got two children. My wife's hobby is cooking foods. Can you imagine the problems I have to turn on raw? It's not only the fact that I'm fighting against my addiction to cooked and processed food, but also the fact that I've got to fight against the opinion of my wife, my children, my family, my friends etc. Although I am convinced of the principles of 'Nature's first law', I've got a long way to go and it's a lonesome one. I've forgotten to say that I am 42 years old an I am a teacher in sports and biologie. Lusidityn what are psilocybe mushrooms? I wish you a lot of succes with your reawakening movement and I'do like to get several tipt to reawake my wife. Paul P.S. English isn't my birthlanguage and hope I've not written too much (many?) faults.

Hi, Oh, how many interesting lectures and books you have to share with us! We are a family with 3 children who always have eaten a lot of raw vegan food, much based on the teaching of Dr Ann Wigmore, whom I also had the pleasure to meet. We are very interested in all spiritual development, especially the path which Jesus showed - and especially we are interested to come in contact with the Essenes teaching of this age. Can you please send us some information on Essenes activities. Are there any contacts in Europe, for ex in southern France or in Sweden? We would like to live in an alternative village which is spiritual (free spirit, not sect) and vegetarian or vegan, preferably positive to livingfoods, international and with a positive and pedagogic attitude to spiritual children, also the artistic and musical expression of spiritual life. Do you know any such place on this planet or do you know any people who are interested in creating such an alternative village? With friendly greetings, Catherine with family

The reason for this is bacause is because I radiate excellent health. The reason for that, my dietary intake consists of 90% rawfood (60% fruits and 30% vegetables. My goal is to reach 100% by the end of the year. I decided since I had taken my finances into my own hands I would also take my health. It has been an incredible journey. We all have obsessions in life and I am obsessed with my health. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking from a vanity point of view but the thought of being sick or being diagnosed with some degenerative disease is absolutely not acceptable to me. I believe the HUMAN BODY is the greatest natural wonder of the world. It is up to all of us to maintain and sustain the life of our body in the most purist, simplistic manner. As you will take note, I am from Toronto, although I was born and raised in Portugual, Lisbon. I have as of yet to meet another rawfoodist in Toronto. Until then, it is a great pleasure to make friends on the internet. Their is so much more I could tell you. I just really wanted to first introduce myself. I hope we will continue to correspond with eachother. Cheers, Jacquie

I have a few remarks on www.rawtimes.com/thesis.html. Thank you for the URL of your thesis. Recently I have rekindled my interest in intuitive Euclidean geometry, so I will keep your thesis in mind. A web version of Euclid's Elements is available online at http://aleph0.clarku.edu/~djoyce/java/elements/elements.html - under various versions of Internet Explorer you have to grant active x controls every conceivable permission to view the diagrams. Your thesis develops the semi-ring of constructible squares (by ruler and compass). The set of constructible squares don't form a ring, since zero (an addiive identity) hasn't been explicitly mentioned, and the notion of a "negative" square isn't defined, additive inverses aren't defined, although subtraction of constructible squares is defined whenever it makes sense. The pictures of distributivity and associativity of constructible squares are nice. I don't see how the geometric constructions of the thesis enables one to conclude that the semi-ring of constructible squares is a complete ordered field - it's not even a ring! A well ordering of the constructible squares hasn't been defined = presumably this could be done using the first few constructions of Book I of Euclid. One has to assume that any real number can be represented as a square, but this is is false unless one introduces imaginary numbers. By field theory, ruler and compass constructions produce numbers that belong to an algebraic number field of dimension equal to some power of two over the rationals, so there is no hope of using ruler and compass constructions to actually construct (and not merely approximate) the squares that would exist in the "completion" of the semi-ring of constructible squares. Anyway, my remarks pertain mostly to the conclusing paragraph of the thesis. The constructions stand on their own.

I saw you at Seattle's Taste of Health a couple of weeks ago. We gave each other a hug on Friday and I came to watch you cook on Sunday. Before I had gotten the hug on Friday, I had planned on hearing Joanne's talk, as I have enjoyed her cookbooks. But You "touched" me in more ways than one and I HAD to see/hear YOU. My sister in Palm Desert has estrogen related breast cancer. I told her about seeing you, but my sister is so skeptical. (I'm the 'weird one' in the family who doesn't conform, who won't eat animals, who rides a motorcycle, etc - Weird - what do I know!) I usually don't use the internet, but my neice will be going to vitsit her mom next month. She will be taking her laptop with her as she as work to do while in California. I wanted to see if you had a website, so maybe my niece could convince her mom to contact you. Not only does my sister have cancer, but she has friends that have it too. Enjoyed you, your food, and your inspiration. Hopefully you will be at Taste of Health next year.

I'm a Greek who ended up in L.A. with my American husband. I eat mainly raw food (about 90%) and am very happy to have found this website. Great support!!! I'm terribly homesick for Greece, or the Mediterranean, but somehow this site has helped. I'd love to find someone who is either Greek ( here in North Hollywood, Burbank or Toluca Lake )or who eats almost 100% raw , or trying to. I'd really love to meet someone every week to speak Greek with. I'm a crazy and youthful 40-year-old, who is serious about raw health. And ofcourse I will be youthful always with living food as nature intended ! Bravo to everyone who's raw or even starting . Keep it up , it's really worth it!

After getting breast cancer, I was drawn to raw foods to cleanse and create more enzymes so my body can change from an acidic envirornment to an alkaline one. I never knew eating this way could be so incrediable!Always creating new recipes and the food tastes great! I have been doing this for one year now and have influenced many people. I have beat the system and have had no reacurrances in 4 yrs! I now consider myself a wellness coach and incorporate wellness coaching into my hypnotherapy practice having people visualize a heathly body, mind and spirit.

I will share more as I experience a continued RAW existence. I am happy to hear from others and how they find the experience. Warmest Regards David

What a delight to find this site ! I have been a raw foods teacher, chef, author for over 10 years. My TV program: Elysa's Raw & Wild Food Show has been on public access TV since 1991. This program addresses the needs of folks who want to learn more about raw and living food recipes, the most up to date services and products about our health, and stories to give hope to those in need. My recipe book: Living with Green Power is now in it's second edition. I sometimes call this my 'never' and 'impossible' book, because I was told it would never be published with photographs, and it was impossible to find a publisher that would print it in full living color. Both happened and this book changed the face of an industry that had not put photographs to the recipes. The TV show is constantly expanding and if you have a public access channel in your neighborhood, and they accept outside producers, please contact me. To date the show airs coast to coast - and I would love to get the word out to more folks about the benefits and joys of raw and living foods, as well as other health related good news. Thanks for this web site ! Elysa - The Raw & Wild Food Lady

I hope to provide information and encourage my mom to seek alternative paths to recovery. I dont believe in putting 100% faith in traditional medicine. I enjoyed your story. I am just switching to raw. It's a process, but I am well motivated by some physical problems that I am told can't be fixed. I seem to do better on fruits than veggies, or at least that's what I have the most desire to eat. Just can't get enough of the citrus. Maybe that's because it's the time of the year when we get the fresh citrus in this area. Thanks for sharing. Gail

I'm not into raw much except for sushi. However, I do like my meat so rare that there is always a chance at ressusication. Was looking for something on Appistat and your page popped up but with all the messages (most from 1998)I never did find anything. I am in the process of developing Integrated Medicine Clinics where ALL of the various modalites are used. I am getting some wonderful results with Chelation Therapy and Prolotherapy. Saving a lot of people from haveing surgery. For those interested in any of this they can contact me. We have a Retreat/Spa where patients can stay until the plan is made for what type treatment is needed. We do a lot of herbal medicine, chiropractry, acupuncture, massage therapy and anything else that seems to work. If you have anything specific on appistat I would appreciate it.

Your forum is one which has been badly needed for many years and I certainly trust that it will continue for many years to come. Dr Shelton headed his magazine "Health Review" with the saying, "Let us have the truth though the heavens fall" And in this I believe you are fulfilling that adage. It si so badly required and so often neglected, the prime consideration appearing to be money in today's society.

It seems to me in my small challenges that as much as you think you have something whipped ( a habit, a trait, etc) You still have to stay on top of things..stay in touch with who you are and your spiritual nature and in the present or you can back slide. I really enjoyed reading the history of your renovation. I,myself,is trying as much as posibble to follow this road, though at some times my cravings for processed foods torment me. My problem is that my family ,my husband and two daughters, are still on cooked food. Last week my husband objected to my way of eating for according to our culture, only cooked food is nutritious and supplies you with power(what a mentality). So after ours of debate, we agreed that I test my blood and check if it got worse or better. If I succeed,he'll follow my path;otherwise,I don't know what to do because this diet has become a way of life to me and I can't quit it. I don't know why everonr is fighting us but if this is changing anything in me it would be to the better. Now I'm thinking of supporting my argument with facts and the only way to do this is through studying. I'll be very grateful if you can supply me with the name of a college that specializes in rawfood nutrition you think is worthwhile. I was supposed to be writing about you and not the opposite. Thank you for listening. Ruwayda

I've been vegan for about 3 years, and have experienced majorly the problem with food fixation and bingeing. I guess with so much attention being spent on food, it is natural to come to see it as the most important thing in life, and perhaps the only thing that brings pleasure. But I am working on these issues (with much success in the bingeing department arrived at by eating slowly, forcing myself to take breaths between foods. This took a couple months time, and a lot of determination, and depression resulting from bingeing cycle)

The mission of the Paradise Restoration Project is to create and maintain the very first HUMAN NATURE SANCTUARY....... the first nature sanctuary for PEOPLE to live in our own native habitat.... A re-creation of the Garden of Eden, with hundreds of species of fruit trees, fragrant flowers, other useful fruits, tame animals like birds and butterflies, saving rare exotic endangered and threatened species from extinction, preserving rainforest lands and the native environment, and making it possible to live on karma-free true fruitarian diet.... Part live-in botanical gardens, part rainforest and wildlife preserve, part organic gardens, part health retreat, part ecovillage and intentional community, part spiritual Sanctuary, and the only true alternative to the limitations of economy and the "power structure".... NO MONEY will be required to live in the Gardens and participate in the Project, and all Gardens Caretakers will co-"own" the Gardens!! The plan is to fund the Project by creating and having the FREE FESTIVAL... a TWO WEEK Music, Art and Nature Festival, similar to what Woodstock could have been.... a regathering of the tribes, name acts calling out for a change towards a sustainable way of life, accepting our rightful inheritance in the greatness of the Earth. Free tickets to the Festival would be available to those showing proof of low income. The first week would be held in a prime outdoor location like Yasgur's Farm with improvements learned from past experiences, the second week would be held on private land, and be a celebration and seed camp, gathering the people and resources together in preparation of the lands for the first Paradise Gardens Sanctuary. Right now the search is on for lands for the Gardens and locations for the Festival, drivers for the Gardenmobile, members of a core group who would be an integral part of a unanimous consensus council, performers for the Festival, and other resources for the Project. The website has been greatly improved and expanded, and contains links to every resource and foundation needed to make this vivid dream a reality... Namaste! JR -- this is Yoga Donny from Harbin Hot Springs. Now we can stay in email contact? Normally the eating of food has many dynamics -- psychological, emeotional, genetic, biological. seasonal, past conditioning, etc. Ideally "food" choices "should be" based on nourishment or healing of the body, but often emetional, psychological, and other factors are aslo miexed because of early conditioning and habitual energy patterns. We also have to deal with these energetic patterns as well before healthy eating patterns are established. Food is medicine or poison depending on many factors and indeed fresh, raw, unadulterated, natural, organic, pesticide and preservative free would be the "best" choice "when and if" they are used in harmony with our body/mind constitutions and immediate needs which are shaped but not limited to the energy body, mental/emotional body, karmic body, seasons, etc. For that to occur we have to not only have a pure diet, but a cleaned out "head" and both must be in agreement -- functioning in harmony as one. THAT living reality --true eternal spirit of pure love -- in you which is both inside and out! Namaste! Yoga Donny

Iwas glued to your writing. You certainly have been through a lot. I KNOW its hard to stick to just raw. I did it for 2 1/2 years and then started having some cooked I still have lots raw but lately more like 50/50. You are so inspiring - reading what you have been through made me feel better about my ongoing attempt at 100% raw.

Anti-Drug Bill Would Allow Secret Searches, Create New Crime: "Illegal Distribution of Information" Immediate action required: Stop the "Methamphetamine Anti- Proliferation Act" now! A bill that has passed the Senate unanimously and is now rapidly moving through the House poses a grave threat to your constitutional rights. This legislation -- HR 2987, also known as the Methamphetamine Anti-Proliferation Act -- would: * Expand the government's power to conduct so-called "sneak-and- peek searches." Police could search your house and not notify you for up to six months. * Make it a federal crime to write about any Internet site that provides drug paraphernalia. * Allow the government to prosecute Americans who teach others how to grow medical marijuana plants. Despite the fact that this legislation is a flagrant assault on your First and Fourth Amendment rights, it sailed through the Senate on November 19 without a single vote against it. Now we need your help urgently to stop HR 2987 before the House approves it as well! HR 2987 is *overdue* for a vote: It was originally scheduled to be considered by the Judiciary Committee before the Memorial Day recess, but that action was postponed. Now that the House has reconvened, a vote could be scheduled any day. (The legislation is also being considered by the House Commerce Committee.) We are asking you to act now to kill this bill before it gets out of committee. This "action item" contains: * Background on HR 2987 and a link to the bill so you can read it for yourself. * The names of the politicians on the two House committees considering this bill, Judiciary and Commerce. * Information on how to contact them and on what to say. BACKGROUND: The Methamphetamine Anti-Proliferation Act was introduced in July, 1999, by Senators Dianne Feinstein, D-CA, and Orrin Hatch, R-UT. On November 19, the bill passed the Senate by "unanimous consent" with no recorded opposition. Hatch and Feinstein claim their bill merely targets labs that produce methamphetamine, a form of speed. But the bill goes far beyond that and gives the federal government sweeping new powers. Specifically: * It would allow federal agents to conduct so-called "sneak and peek" searches without having to notify you for six months -- if ever. Current law requires that, if police want to search your home, they must produce a warrant, and if you're not home, they have to immediately notify you about the search and give you an inventory of confiscated items. But in vague, seemingly innocuous language in the section of HR 2987 entitled "Notice of Issuance," the legislation says that "any notice required" to be given for a search "may be delayed pursuant to the standards, terms, and conditions set forth in section 2705" of federal law. That section, according to legal experts, lets police delay notification for up to 180 days. That means police could conduct a "black bag" job on your house, search through your belongings -- and not even inform you they were there for a full six months. * It would allow federal agents to secretly copy your computer files and financial documents, and even take photographs of your belongings without ever notifying you. How did this happen? Lobbyists for the FBI quietly inserted the word "tangible" before the word "property" in the following sentence of the bill: "Subdivision (d) of such rule, as in effect on this date, is amended by inserting 'tangible' before 'property' each place it occurs." Since copies of your computer's hard drive -- and photographs of your personal belongings -- technically are not "tangible property," FBI and DEA agents would not have to notify you. The "sneak and peek" provision is such a blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment that it even caught the attention of Republican Rep. Bob Barr -- normally a vociferous supporter of the government's War on Drugs. Barr called the underhanded maneuver "typical behavior from the Justice Department and the FBI. That's certainly not the way to conduct business when you're dealing with people's liberties." HR 2987 also attacks your First Amendment freedoms by creating several "communication crimes." It: * Creates a federal felony -- punishable by a 10-year prison term -- called "Illegal distribution of information." Section 421 of the bill says it shall be unlawful to "teach or demonstrate to any person the manufacture of a controlled substance." Lawyers say this provision could be used to prosecute, for example, an individual who told a suffering AIDS or cancer victim how to grow medical marijuana. * Makes it illegal to advertise -- even indirectly -- drug paraphernalia. Section 5 of the bill says it shall be illegal for any "communications facility" to "post, publicize, transmit, publish, link to, broadcast or otherwise advertise" any sort of "drug paraphernalia" or "controlled substances." So, "if you had links on your web site to sites like High Times magazine, you could be threatened with a count of indirect advertising," according to Keith Stroup, executive director of NORML. Thanks to HR 2987, the War on Drugs has become a War on Words! That's why your help is urgently needed. We're asking you to help us kill this unconstitutional, un-American legislation before it gets out of the House. Please take the action below, then forward this item to a friend. WHAT TO DO: Look at the attached list of the members of the two House committees that are considering this bill, Judiciary and Commerce. (Because these two panels are so large -- with a collective total of 90 members -- there's a good chance that your representative is on one of them.) Then take the following action: (1) Call the TOLL FREE number for the Congressional switchboard: (888) 449-3511. Then ask to speak to the office of your representative. If you don't know who this is try this link http://www.house.gov/ If that number is busy, try (202) 225-3121 or (202) 224-3121. The switchboard is open 24 hours, and most congressional offices have voice mail, so please make the call as soon as you get this message. WHAT TO SAY: (1) Identify yourself and let them know you are a voter in their district. Leave your name, address, complete with ZIP code, and phone number. Please be brief, especially if you are leaving a message. (2) Tell them to vote AGAINST the so-called Methamphetamine Anti-Proliferation Act, HR 2987. (If your representative sits on the Judiciary Committee, let them know the bill may come up for a vote within days. If your representative sits on the Commerce Committee, let them know that this bill was referred to their committee last September, and is expected to come up for a vote in June.) Tell them that this bill contains so many attacks on your liberty that it can't possibly be amended or improved, it must be killed immediately! Let them know you are *angry* that Congress has written a bill that would give federal agents the power to sneak into your home. Inform them that you're *appalled* that they're even considering a law that bans the "criminal distribution of information." (3) Ask them to confirm their position on HR 2987, since you'll want to show their letter to all of your friends and relatives -- who are also registered voters in their district. (4) Finally, E-mail this "action item" to a friend, and ask them to call their representative, too, if his or her name is on the list. Thank you for your help! Sincerely, Steve Dasbach National Director Libertarian Party PS: To verify any of the information above, go to http://thomas.loc.gov/ then type in H.R. 2987 in the box that says "search by bill number." BELOW IS MORE INFORMATION, FORWARDED TO ME BY MY BROTHER MITCHELL COHEN. .politechbot.com home page / search / subscribe / about / photos Police can do secret searches of your home, bill says, from CDT · Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 12:21:46 -0400 · To: politechasundervorlon.mit.edu · Subject: FC: Police can do secret searches of your home, bill says, from CDT · From: Declan McCullagh · Cc: TomTank at america online.com, webmngrasunderi2i.org This bill is truly disturbing, and thanks to CDT for a very nice analysis attached below. I also mentioned the "secret search" provisions in the House meth bill in a May 9 article: This is similar to a letter from Reno in January that said cops could do secret searches and seizures (in the context of snatching private keys) without new legislation: In my weekly column last week I mentioned the meth vote in House Judiciary still hadn't happened, probably due to pressure from drug legalization activists: Background on the bill: The CDT letter is considerably more detailed, but I've placed an ACLU "suggested amendments to the meth bill" letter here: Dave Kopel of the Independence Institute (not the Independent Institute) wrote an analysis too: -Declan ********* -->Date: Mon, 22 May 2000 00:14:52 -0400 -->From: Jim Dempsey -->Subject: CESA lives: Secret searches provision in the meth bill --> -->The methamphetamine bill that may soon be marked up by the House Judiciary -->Committee includes an extraordinary provision that purports to authorize -->secret searches of homes, apartments and offices in ordinary criminal -->cases. This is a sneaky, dangerous provision. --> -->The amendment would serve the same purpose as the secret search provision -->that was in the discredited earlier draft of the Administration's CESA -->bill (the Cyberspace Electronic Security Act). --> -->The provision also appears in the Senate bankruptcy bill, of all -->places. Since that bill is already in conference, that may be the current -->greatest threat. --> -->The provision is sec. 6 of H.R. 2987; it is sec. 301 of the Senate-passed -->meth bill, S. 486; and it is sec 1791 of the Senate bankruptcy bill, S. -->833. In all three, it is entitled "Notice; Clarification." The language -->is very obscure: it amends 18 USC 3103a, which presently consists of a -->single sentence stating that warrants may be issued to search for and -->seize evidence. The new language never even refers to search -->warrants. It says that "with respect to any issuance" under section 3103a -->or "any other provision of law," any notice that may be required may be -->delayed pursuant to the standards and terms of section 2705 of title -->18. It takes a bit to unpack this. Section 2705 has nothing to do with -->searches of homes or offices: it pertains to subpoenas for old email or -->stored records in the hands of an ISP or "remote computing service," under -->18 USC 2703(b). 2705 allows notice of subpoenas issued to such service -->providers to be withheld from the customer for up to 90 days! --> -->Extending this process to searches of homes and offices would -->fundamentally change Fourth Amendment practice. --> -->Background --> -->Normally, under the Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable -->searches and seizures, it is not enough that the police have obtained a -->warrant based on probable cause. They must also knock and announce their -->authority, giving you notice, and they must leave an inventory of the -->items seized. The amendment in the meth bill would allow federal law -->enforcement agents to enter your house, apartment or office with a search -->warrant when you are away, conduct a search, seize or copy things (like -->your computer hard drive) and not tell you until months later. --> -->The knock, notice and inventory requirements serve several purposes not -->satisfied by the warrant. They allow you time, if you are home, to comply -->peacefully, thus avoiding mistaken confrontation. They afford an -->opportunity to assert your rights by reading the warrant and pointing out -->if the police came to the wrong address, upon which the police may -->withdraw and proceed to the correct address. If you are the subject of a -->lawful search, you can observe the police to ensure that they confine -->their search to the scope of the warrant. For example, if the warrant is -->limited to a search for stolen cars, they have no authority to look in -->your dresser drawers. In the case of a prolonged search, you can even -->rush to the courthouse (often searches of a business can last all day) and -->ask a judge to stop or narrow the search. And the inventory allows you to -->seek return of your property and tells you what information is in the -->hands of the government, so that you can respond and defend yourself -->against the government's suspicions or allegations. --> -->The Supreme Court has twice recently affirmed that "knock and announce" -->are key elements of the Fourth Amendment protections. Richards v. -->Wisconsin, 520 US 385 (1997), Wilson v. Arkansas, 514 US 927 (1995). The -->Court held in these cases there are exceptions to the knock and announce -->requirement, such as where the suspect is likely to flush the evidence -->down the toilet, or when there is a likelihood of violent resistance, but -->the court made it clear that there can be no blanket exceptions to these -->requirements. Also, in those cases, while the Court recognized "no-knock" -->searches as permissible under some circumstances, the searches were -->clearly not secret. And while the Court, of course, has allowed secret -->entries for the purpose of planting bugs, Title III imposes other, -->extensive safeguards on electronic surveillance. --> -->Sneak and peek --> -->In cases pre-dating the Supreme Court decisions in Richards and Wilson, -->two circuit courts allowed so-called "sneak and peek" searches in which -->notice of a search is delayed. These cases are highly suspect as a matter -->of law and policy. However, even accepting them, they offer no support -->for the amendment in the meth bill. --> -->The Ninth Circuit case, US v. Freitas, 800 F.2d 1451 (9th Cir. 1986), held -->that the Constitution requires notice within a reasonable, but short time, -->subsequent to the entry. "Such time should not exceed seven days except -->upon a strong showing of necessity." The Second Circuit found the notice -->requirement in Rule 41 rather than in the Constitution (a decision -->probably proven incorrect by Wilson v. Arkansas), but it agreed with the -->9th Circuit that, as an initial matter, the issuing court should not -->authorize a delay of longer than seven days. US v. Villegas, 899 F2d 1324 -->(2d Cir. 1989). See US v. Pangburn, 983 F2d 449 (2d Cir 1993). --> -->In contrast to the 7 day requirement adopted by the two circuits that have -->allowed surreptitious searches at all, the amendment in Section 16/310 in -->the meth bill would allow an initial delay of up to 90 days, which is what -->2705 provides. --> -->Further, even the courts approving sneak and peek searches have stressed -->the importance of demonstrating the necessity for such a search based on -->the facts of a particular case. It seems irrational to base secret -->searches of homes based on criteria in section 2705, developed for -->subpoenas served on ISPs for old email. --> -->Finally, the secret physical searches that have been approved in criminal -->cases all involved "sneak and peek" -- nothing was taken, which led the -->courts to conclude that the searches were less intrusive. But the -->amendment in the meth bill is not so limited -- it goes well beyond mere -->sneak and peek. Moreover, in the age of computers, it is possible for the -->government to copy a great deal of sensitive evidence without disturbing -->anything and without the subject knowing. --> -->So the meth amendment cannot be defended as a codification of the sneak -->and peek cases - it is not limited in terms of the length of delay nor the -->scope of the search. --> -->Inventory --> -->The second piece of the amendment would relieve the government of giving -->you an inventory of seized intangible items (again, like the contents of -->your computer.) The law normally requires that an inventory of seized -->items be prepared on the spot and presented to the person whose property -->has been seized. While a full on-the-spot listing of the contents of a -->hard drive might be difficult in computer files seizures, the amendment in -->the meth bill seems to state that intangible items need never be -->inventoried. Combined with the secret search provision, it is doubly -->dangerous. --> -->CESA: Secret Searches for Encryption Keys --> -->Last summer, the Clinton Administration circulated internally a draft bill -->allowing for secret searches to seize encryption information or to alter a -->person's computer to disable its encryption or plant a keystroke -->monitoring program. After the draft was leaked to the press, the secret -->search provision was withdrawn, and the version of CESA sent to the Hill -->did not include the secret search provision. (Even that version of the -->bill has never been introduced.) --> -->The amendment to the meth bill accomplishes the same goal -- it allows -->secret searches and the seizure of intangibles (like decryption -->information) without notice or inventory. In this wa y, the meth amendment -->is an attack upon the use of encryption. --> -->CDT is conveying its concerns to Members of the House Judiciary Committee. --> --> -->----------- --> -->For more information, please contact Jim Dempsey or Alan Davidson at CDT. --> --> -->Alan Davidson, Staff Counsel 202.637.9800 (v) -->Center for Democracy and Technology 202.637.0968 (f) -->1634 Eye St. NW, Suite 1100 -->Washington, DC 20006 --> --> Join Operation Opt-Out --> A single place to remove your name from marketing databases. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- POLITECH -- the moderated mailing list of politics and technology To subscribe, visit This message is archived at ----------------------------------------------- --------------------------- Return to politechbot.com

great recipes, valuable info on juicers. i'm new to this, doing 85% raw w/o meat, dairy, sugar, salt, caffeine, etc. cooked foods remain high-fiber grains as well as other starches. my medical history looks like a laundry list but after only one month there is dramatic improvement, including normal-as-can-be blood pressure and blood sugar, weight reduction, sleep apnia gone (sleep like a baby), hiatal hernia pains gone, etc. etc. i'm getting a complete overhaul thru raw and natural foods. hallelujah!

JR, Glad to hear that you're back. I was in the shower when you called me! You're having the worst luck reaching me. I'll be home until Sunday AM, then I'm going on vacation for a few weeks. Try me again Thurs nite. I'm usually home by 10pm. Or you can try calling before 12 noon. I don't usually go out before then (unless I'm working). Or else leave me a phone where I can reach you and a specific time to call. It might work. --Shawn

Yes you are so right good for you. I am readsing the book now some of the horrors I knew from being a former PETA member I have been an ovo lacto veg. for 15 years since I was 15 I am seventh day adventist we do not eat pork and oter animal for health reasons. I am proud to be a part of a religion that does not condone the needless killing of animals. I want John Robbins to get on the OPRAH SHOW aswell as tell Martha Stewart, Emeril Legasse and other chefs what is really up. It makes me sik to watch these cooking shows. ps I have grown up eating all kinds of wonderful veggie food and most of it is right at the grocery store in 3 different sections. I am not talking about a block of tofu. I started doing all the research because my son is 9 1/2 months old I will not feed him meat, but my husband wants to feed him some, he has only two times. Thanks for this wonderful source of information about living foods. My partner and I are eating about 70% raw and loving it - feeling better than ever. And something that isn't mentioned often, but which I've noticed and appreciate is that our energy bills have decreased significantly because we rarely turn on the oven anymore, and cleanup is so easy - rinsing out the blender/processor. It sounds petty, but after preparing a meal, it's a pleasure not to have to scrub pots and pans.

Hi Jr, I got your mail, but I don't think I need the c programming as much as I need active server pages and odbc. I'll look for someone else if you won't be back. My mother will have to have surgery April, 2000 to have part of her colon removed. I hope and pray everything will be ok. Her problem is caused by poor eating habits. She is 79 years old and is in good health otherwise. As of now I am trying to change my eating habits. Being a vegetarian does not sound bad. I'll have to study on it somemore. If you have any diets for this I would appreciate the internet address. Thank you

Hi Michael, I stumbled on you by noticing the name rather than the subject. I am your cousin, the daughter of Howard, your father's only sibling. I knew your dad. I knew of both Michael Cananns. My cousin was born in 1948, so you might be his son. I knew my Grandparents, Harry and Lowella pretty well though they died when I was nine and ten. I'm very curious as to how we hook up. I think my sister Carmen made plans for us to meet a year or two back.I found many interesting tid bits about the Canann name while I was in Ireland. Greetings to all beautiful RAW people, My question of the day concerns sprouting. I have recently begun to sprout with mixed results. Three days ago i tried to sprout oat grouts, and mold formed. i thought, well, maybe this was so because i bought them prepackaged, I have since moved on the bulk buying bins . I followed Juliano's (Raw the uncooked Book Author) ,soaking instructions. I did succeed with Quinoa however. It spouted in less than 5 hours. Now i'm attempting to grow Spelt and Chick Peas. Does anyone have any sprouting tips they would share??. Buy the way, raw power IS the way to go!!!!. Peace and harmony, James

Hi, I. m Cezar and I have some ideas that I. m very excited about. Would you please publish this article and pass it on to other groups or people that you think would be interested. Thanks, love, Cezar. The International Holistic Vegan Community From : Cezar f. Silva Imagine one place where we can learn to live within the natural limits of time, space, and materials. Eating locally grown produce in one big organic farm . Where vegan nutrition will be the central focus.and there will be a school of nutrition, cooking, and vegan food production. It will be a place where we use free alternative medicine such as herbal medicine and massage therapy. In studying the power of the mind we can develop the best kind of dialog with love in personal relationship and in community life. This study of the mind will also include parapsychology and neuro-linguistic programming. This study is in order to allow the life to become more positive. Studying sexual relationships will include free education about tantra. It will be a holistic therapy center with meditiations, yoga, dance, celebrations, and an alternative way of living life in love. This communtiy will strive to power itself with alternative energy. Modern technology will be used, including the internet. This community will publish books and videos. Videos utilizing special effects and stories will help people learn many things. All productions will be intended to help people tap into what is positive inside themselves. There would be a national vegan satellite channel as well. Experience the beauty and joy of nature. Recycle, reuse, and reduce consumption . Use non-toxic prodcts to protect our enviroment. Make life stile choices that will ensure the continuation of life in the Earth. Be kind and compassionate. Respect the sacredness of all living things. Cezar F Silva Brazilian , 48 years old, divorced. Was looking for information on the history of man's diet. Am looking forward to reading the paleo-article/interview. The name Avery sounds familiar. Have we met at a Hygiene conference within the past 5 years. I became familiar with Natural Hygiene about 13 years ago and have been practicing more rather than less of the hygiene philosophy for the past five years. I began with a 20 day water fast in August of 95'. The monthly news letter does sound extensive at 160 to 190 pages. However, it does appear worthy of the lenght with respect to the vast range of topics cover. I'll look forward to reading it, also.

I have been a rawfoodist for just on 5 weeks now and am loving it. I literally cold turkeyed (pardon the pun)off cooked foods. I originally had a taste for it 10 years ago when I read Arnold Ehret's book "The Mucusless Diet Healing System". Unfortunately that only lasted a few months as I allowed other peoples beliefs to influence me. Although I've always had the feeling that I was on the right track and now I don't care what anyone says, I know it's the right way to go for me. I'm feeling really good now and can't wait to see how well I feel months and years from now.

Hi, Bob: Ran across this webpage by accident (I'd long lost the URL due to pc problems), and was delighted. Re: choosing which back articles I'd like? Ha! As Duke Ellington once told me when I asked which song/composition was his favorite: "That's like choosing between your children: But now that's easy: It's the one I'm working on at the moment." For you, I expect that's the way it is "at the moment," but on reflection, what are your favorites? Just curious. Meanwhile, please tally up the following and if it won't "break the bank," I'd like to consider adding them to my "library." Thanks much, Gerry For starters: Newsletters Numbers: 2, 5, 6, 12, 13 (Re: "favorite books," unless there's an updated version I seemed to recall seeing but don't recall the number), 15, 16, 17, 19?, 22, 24, 26, 27, 33, 34, 36, 37, 38 Dreams, 39, 40, 42 (RE: Dreams: Please choose for me between #38 and #42), 43, 44, and 46. PS: I can see this must be a very tedious labor of love for you. But what a treasure for all of us;-)

Used to be a raw foodist in my 20's, followed Ehret's teachings, even the teachings of a guy named Victoras Kulvinskas, if I spelled it right, ever heard of that guy?. I see Ann Wigmore is now the late Ann Wigmore, how old was she? I have read every health diet known to man and I am so lost. I've done it all, Atkins to vegan to raw and back again. I am as lost as anybody could be and so confused. Nobody seems to have any real answers, or they are so convinced that there regime is the right one. I am now 40, work out 6 days a week, for an hour. Would like to feel a lot better though, and look a lot better. Hoping to find some answers in your corner.

hi! as with a lot of people on this website, this information is very new to me. coming to this point has been a journey. i'm overwhelmed and a little more than confused. i've just finished reading the book DIET FOR A NEW AMERICA by JOHN ROBBINS. the information was mindboggleing. some of it i knew, most of it is new and extremely disturbing. it's easy to say i will never eat meat again untilmy mom cooks my favorite pork chowmein or my husband cooks his best chicken paprikash. i've never been a vegetable lover. yikes!! one thing in my favor is not having to do a lot of preparation. on the other hand a lack of variey is boring. at the age of 52 the motivation for change is reading about how freat people are feeling with this way of eating. so does anyone out there live in cleveland? encouragement would be greatly appreciated. sak112147 at america online.com

Hi, Just read your bio and was like reading my own. I too am an addict in recovery from drugs and alcohol, however, not food. I live to eat. All my life from my little girl days to now food has been my organism. At times better than sex. In 1987 I bought Kay Sheppards Book, "Food Addition, the Body Know". And lost 180 pounds. I went from 340 to 162. God, I was almost pretty and I loved to wear normal clothes, size 12. It was nice nnot to have people stare at me. I organized my life, completed college and graduated in 1994. I then got married for the first time in 1995 at the age of 44. Here is it 5 years later and I weigh 270 lbs. I'm miserably fat and can't stand myself.Last Feb I met these wonderful people named John and catherine. They eat all raw. I went on this way of eating for 3 months, lost 35 lbs and felt a new beginning. I had no support and my husband refused to go on it with me. I cooked meat for him and eventually lost my raw way of life. I am lost. I want to be healthy but only The Food Addiction Diet has helped. I am scared. If I don't lose weight I will surely die. Please help if you can. I too go to OA and it has helped. Thanks. Tebayane

I found your site while looking for a source of Essene Bread similar to the kind I enjoyed in California before relocating to OK.

hello, from yours truly, jrellis from bangkok, thailand, i left in 1999 and arrived in 2000. i haven't done much in the last few days. i met someone on the plane who told me about a good place to stay, only 35bux a day with airconditioning, tv, cd player, vcr, refrigerator and daily maid service. i expect to be here a while. i am pretty much not high above the weather. i had intended to say more, but such is life. suffice it to say that i am not going to jet to any island until i am healthy enough. meanwhile, after not eating for the first two days, i am finally surrounded by tangerines, watermelon, lichee nuts, pineapple, apples, cucumbers, coconuts, paypayas, mangoes, strawberries, and that is just a sample of the stuff i know the name of. my four favorites fruits i have never seen before. its just as well that i haven't found any nuts yet. i am not coming back home till i shed this thick, crusty, deadly layer of sin. so i might be here awhile. on the other hand, i have been known to give up alot. i am pretty sure my next stop will be a flight to Surat Thani, and then a boat to the island of Koh Phangan, and then a longtail boat to Haad Rin beach on the se coast. anyway, i still haven't checked my mail and when i do there will be hundred or thousands of messages, so if you want to get a message to me the best way to do it would be the sign the rawtimes guestbook. i may leave monday, next monday, who knows, from bangkok to koh phangan. all raw rules.

I would love to hear from anyone out there who has co-established an intentional "raw" community -- from a shared house, to a neighborhood, to a co-housing project! I am very interestd in doing so, and I'd also love to hear from anyone who lives in Seattle (or wants to live in Seattle) who is interested in living in such a community!

Hi Heide: Enjoyed reading your bio - and congratulate yuou at your self teaching!!! I have to ask you a questions about the 'greenlife' - Which is the same as Green Power... which I bought!!! I find it a pain to clean up after making a juice, I have not tried to make wheatgrass!! What am I doing wrong... the screen is hard to clean and all those pieces.. wow!!! I could run around the corner for $2 and buy me a perfectly organic juice... quicker and less pain and suffering!!! I went into the "people" section and was amazing - I did not even know that site existed - thanks for the info!!! Happy New Year to you!!! Thanks for your input on the 'list' - it is appreciated. I loved your detailed info on the King of Fruit, durian. I have seen some of these friuts in local markets here in Los Angeles. I really do not know whether they are safe to eat, but your article has made me feel like trying one. My wife is from the Philipines and has tasted wonderful fruits like mongueteen, I have not been to such places with such wonderful fruit. I hope that one day I will be able to live in the tropics and eat, eat, eat the wonders of God's nature there. I have become a total raw food eater and so has my wife since she has gotten sick. She has been eating all raw (except for Chinese herbal medicine teas and other herbs) to get her to recover from her illness. I intend to be raw until the end. Here, there, or in the air. her chinese herbal teas she takes for her rare
