My plan is to lead by setting a good example. After
he gets old enough, I would like to try and slip him
some good fresh, raw juices, and work from there.

Actually, she is a little old for Texas <g>. Too
bad we aren't from Arkansas, or I would say
she is my first cousin, too. <g>

Well, I have a couple of old friends who are waiting for the perfect
woman. They are still single with no hope in site...and I have
a baby boy; which is something I never thought I would have.
I know that kind of sounds conceited, like I think I'm perfect and
had to "settle" or something, but I'm into an odd mixture of
things and the woman who matches my every interest lives only in
my imagination.

As far as agreement beforehand, I went raw after I met her, so
that just wasn't an option for me.

We are living in an insane world when women think there
is an option to breast feeding, anyway.

I did have some vindication when her doctor told her not to
give the baby formula, and that he had eliminated all dairy
from his own home himself...and had recently cut out meat.
I think I'm going to have to go have a talk with him. What
are the odds of finding a medical doctor like that?

> i would imagine that if breast feeding is/was truly an issue, you may
> have resolved it before having children

Well, we didn't really plan one way or the other. She saw
a doctor shortly after we got together that said it was
going to be very, very hard for her to get pregnant again.
So we just said if we do, we do. And if we don't, we don't.
Personally, I chalk it up to the carrot juice! But anyway,
because we both weren't really expecting it, there wasn't
a whole lot of issue resolving going on before hand.

I have to admit, though, sometimes it really gets to
me that I constantly feel like I help other people's children
more than my own. You just have to do the best with what
life throws you. That might sound overly simple, but that
is the point I'm at right now.

There is no need to follow the excessive-protein propaganda of the
body-building or meatarian cults. In fact, many "degenerative diseases" are
linked with excessive protein intake.
http://www.ecologos.org/ttdd.htm
As our highest protein needs are when we are infants, while building new
tissue at the most rapid rate of our lives, that maximum need is supplied by
human milk with ~1% protein. We have no ability to digest concentrated
proteins from any source; that is the reason for the offensive fecal odors
while consuming concentrated proteins.

> why do i cough up so much flem when i each oranges? is it the powerful
cleansing effect?
Absolutely not; no food can "cleanse" anything.
What is happening is that the acid in citrus, pineapple, etc.
is -irritating- the lining of your throat and it then excretes mucus
to -protect- itself from the acid.
Citrus and acid fruits will "cleanse" the teeth right out of your mouth
by dissolving them. Rub your teeth together and they will feel smooth, eat
an orange and rub again. They will feel rough, like sandpaper, because the
acid has etched the surface of the tooth. Cover a sea shell half way with
orange juice overnight; see how the acid has etched the surface.
There are several symptoms of teeth being dissolved: gumline erosion, a
little groove around the base of the tooth, at the gumline. You can feel
this with a fingernail. Eventually, one will feel pain in this area when
eating dried fruit, because the enamel is thinnest at this point. The
cutting edge of the incisors becoming transparent and chipping away is
another sign of advanced acid attack.
I knew a guy that lived in a citrus grove and did a 'citrus fast'; he
dissolved all his teeth right down to the gumline. I did a lot of damage to
my teeth eating a case of citrus a week in the '70's before I figured out
what was happening. This problem was only hinted at in Vik's Survival ->
21st Century with the cryptic phrase: "citrus will dissolve any fruitarian".
The problem is that one will feel really great eating lots of citrus; I
call it the seductive assassin for that reason.
If one really must consume citrus, drink the juice with a straw, as this
will minimize the contact of the acid with the teeth.

Bob -- you know -nothing- about chemistry, so in the interests of sanity
and public responsibility, you should stop making crackpot claims about
chemical issues.
The issue here is the acid in citrus attacking the mucus membranes of
the throat and the response being to excrete mucus to -protect- the tissue
from the acid. Citrus also damages teeth, another issue that you seem
blissfully unaware of, per your 'recommendation'.

" is cooked or processed in any way we lose many important enzymes."
This is a common trick of those who deal in nutribabble, especially
advertising propaganda; stating a fact, and then trying to hook some
irrelevant belief to that fact.
Yes, enzymes are important; they are catalysts that allow biochemistry
to proceed at body temperature. However, each species makes their own
specific enzymes to support their own specific biochemistry.
The enzymes in an apple support the development and maturation
biochemistry of the apple; the enzymes in an apple are NOT concerned with
human digestive biochemistry.
Further, enzymes are proteins, so any enzymes eaten will be digested
(and their enzymatic activity destroyed), just like any other protein
Much confusion has been propagated by the old Hippocrates with their
unsupportable, although appealing, claims about "living enzymes". Enzymes
in food are no more living than the proteins in an old pre-vegan shoe.
My experience over the years when challenging those who make such claims
to provide some scientific support for their claims, is that they can not.

It's not quite that simple. The high speed impacts of the blades can
cause -local- transient temperatures far in excess of that, while the
overall mass would show very little temperature rise. E.g., pyrotechnic
mixtures can easily be brought to their ignition temperatures (several
hundreds of degrees) in a blender.
The other important issue is beating oxygen into the mixture and the
possibility of oxidation of some nutrients.
The only way to nail this down would be to test the loss of nutrients
with different blenders/juicers and compare the results. Unfortunately
there is no simple/inexpensive way to test for nutritional quality at this
point.

"Salt" is simply sodium chloride, an ionic compound of sodium and
chlorine ions (Na+ and Cl-). It is inorganic, there is no such thing as
"organic" salt. "Organic" chemicals are those that contain carbon, and
there is no carbon in 'salt'. Didn't you go to high school?<G>.
Salt, in its most general definition is the reaction product of an acid
and a base.

> I saw salt as a rock, rather than an organic plant and didn't use it at
all.
Yes, it is a mineral, and certainly not a plant or animal.

> Sometimes I see raw vegan recipes containing Celtic sea salt, or raw seed
> "cheeses" in the health food store, containing salt, and I feel it's not
really
> organic, natural, or raw.
Salt, having no carbon, is an inorganic compound by definition.
It is 'natural', in that it exists in Nature; however, since it is so
soluble in water, it has long ago been washed out of the land into the
seas(s). Some may be trapped in salt deposits that formed when inland seas
evaporated, and these are mined like any other mineral.
However, salt is -not- a natural 'food' for our species because it does
not exist in the environment where we could eat it. It also doesn't taste
good eaten in significant amounts. Sufficient sodium and chlorine exist in
real foods, like fruits and vegs.

If you can provide any credible evidence that what one eats changes our
DNA, I'd certainly like to see it.
Is it not obvious that there is no ability to 'adapt' to dietary input,
since changing from a local cultural diet toward a fruit/veg diet suitable
for our frugivorous ape species results in increased health? This in spite
of millions of years of flesh-eating?

Although there are negative psychological effects of flesh-eating:

all living beings..not just the humanoids. Could you teach me the Vulcan

All humor aside,I must agree with you in some measure. Human
civilization now faces the final moment of a critical juncture. The dawn of
a glorious new era is on one side, and the worn-out skeleton of the past on
the other. Humanity has to adopt one or the other. As for me, my optimism
knows no bounds. Propagating our diet alone will help in effecting the
wonderful changes ahead. Some day when humanity finally is one, our future
brothers and sisters might make this dusty 3rd planet from the sun a
paradise.
If I had no confidence in the dignity of man, and I really believed that
humanity was intellectually bankrupt, I would certainly not be eating and
living the way we all do. I would be gorging on Twinkies! However, if the
cause and ends are noble, then success is certain if we make the collective
effort.

For clouds cannot hide the sun for a long time. The creatures of darkness
never want the expansion of society. Even then, humanity will march ahead.
None can arrest the speed of progress. We are the harbingers ,the pioneers
of such a victorious march. We should see that not a single individual lags

About 1% by volume, 5 1/2 % by calories.

Close to 50% by calories.

Laurie,

I agree that too much acid fruit can damage teeth, but that's a separate
issue. The protective reaction you are talking about is helping her get
rid of stored up phlegm.

our

Read the Pottenger cat study. 3rd generation cooked food cats were so
genetically damaged, they couldn't reproduce.

> Is it not obvious that there is no ability to 'adapt' to dietary
input,

No, not really. The saliva produces greater or lesser amounts of
starch-digesting enzymes, depending on the prevalence of starches in the
diet. This is just one of many adaptive changes that occur with changes
in diet.

> The enzymes in an apple support the development and maturation

with

Not so. Many of the types of enzymes contained in foods are also
produced by the human body. Moreover, the ensymes in a raw apple assist
in the digestion of that apple while it resides in the upper stomach,
also known as the enzyme stomach.

> Further, enzymes are proteins, so any enzymes eaten will be digested
>(and their enzymatic activity destroyed), just like any other protein

This happens in the lower. more acidic portion of the stomach after they
have already done their job.

Dr. Howell also theorized, based on studying numerous animal experiments
with enzymes, that enzzymes contain an energy that is absorbed and used
by the body prior to their destruction in the stomach.

Enzymes

See above.

claims

not.

Dr. Howell cited over two hundred studies. If you want references, they
are all there inhis books waiting to be studied.

Although I prefer to chew myself, Dr. Gian-Cursio found that blended
salads were 4x more efficiently digested as the same salads chewed.

I'm 55 years old. When will this happen to me? When I'm 110?

The same happened to me from a year of eating lemons like apples. There
is such a thing as overdoing.

The effect also depends on the quality of the citrus. High brix citrus
has a higher pH and does not have the same destructive effects as low
brix citrus.

None whatsoever? That will be news to my stomach.

Jay,

Don't forget bananas. They can eat those as infants.

Your carrot juice, or does she drink it too?

Govinda,

>If I had no confidence in the dignity of man, and I really believed
that
>humanity was intellectually bankrupt, I would certainly not be eating
and
>living the way we all do. I would be gorging on Twinkies!

Not I. I care about my body, even if others don't care about theirs.
