I also found it was too sour and more like a salad than pie, so I found mixing in ripe bananas helps the taste and texture. I have a list two pages long of drugs that I have taken in the past, for heart, high-blood pressure, neuropathy, hiatal hernia, etc., etc. From time to time they discover that many of these drugs are harmful. Just about a week ago I read where they are starting a class action suit against the company that produces Propulsid....another one that I was on. There are at least six others I was on that they now warn could cause liver problems or kidney problems. Another thing gets me.....they advertise something to stop a drippy nose, but warn it could cause constipation, diarrhea, kidney failure, high blood pressure, heart palpitations and a few other things. Somewhere in Dr. Bernard Jensen's new book, "Come Alive" he makes a comment about eating the entire apple. Claims that what's in the seeds is good for you. I do believe it's arsenic or something that resembles laetrile. Jensen says it's good for your colon and the critters that try to live there. I wouldn't juice the entire apple as it takes too many apples for a glass of juice, but when eating an apple by hand (or is it mouth?) I eat the core and all. 1. roll up several large leaves at a time and slice thinly (chiffonade) or
roll and put through a food processor slicer-anyhow, make into thin long
ribbons and proceed with salad dressing and other veggies of choice

2. marinate large leaves overnight in oil, lemon, nama shoyu or sea salt and

The situation is: I am living with my wife and two young daughters, all of whom are enthusiastically SDD (dutch version of SAD). Personally I would like to live as raw as possible, which I did for some 18 months, till about a year ago. It was not easy, and took a lot of perseverance, flexibility and improvisation on my part. There are no other raw fooders in my surroundings. I know I can do raw for an extended period, enjoying it, because I like fruits and like to live 'clean' and feel healthy. However, I also love cooked foods in any form and quantity. Being surrounded by cooked and attractive foods all the time proved too much for me, and being in a period of personal and occupational hardship, I decided to give up and eat my fill again. Gaining the old extra 15 kilos again. At the moment, I am looking at another 12,5 years of cooked and unhappy family life until the kids leave home and I hope to be a free man again. This being as it is, it would be best to leave this list now, to return with enthusiasm again in 12,5 years. (I know some things never change...) . Before unsubscribing I would like to know: a. if any of you recognize this situation and know of more creative and positive ways to deal with it, b. if there is another list (the twelve steps list, e.g.) which focuses more on the hardships of 'kicking the habit', of dealing with this terrible cooked food addiction in a hostile (foodwise) environment. thanks Ernst - --- RAWLIFE- faq at http://www.rawtimes.com/rawlife.html subscriptions, problems, questions, mailto:webmaster@rawtimes.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Nov 2000 09:33:29 EST From: owner-rawlife@rawtimes.com Subject: [rawlife] Viktoras Kulvinskas comes to New York City Raw Food Fest with Viktoras Kulvinskas, father of the modern Raw Food Movement, Co-founder with Ann Wigmore of The Hippocrates Institute Autor of Survival in the 21st century January 19th-2st, 2001 -3 days of Raw Food Preparations (all meals consumed by participants) - -2 Lectures each Day, Questions & Answers. JOYFUL YOU LAUNCHES NEW SEMINAR "Activating Inner Joy," an interactive playshop for ages 18 to 80, will be offered November 11 at Sedona's Lizard Head Hall. Attendees will learn the "Sweet Sixteen" Joy Activators through a variety of fun experiential activities. It will be faciltated by five caring dynamic Instructors: Dr. Brandy Howe, Tony Bedford, Jack and Gabrielle Loomis, Dr. Peggy Joy Jenkins. It is being sponsored by Joyful You, a subsidiary of Joyful Child Inc., a nonprofit educational organization that promotes inner joy. Author Peggy Jenkins founded Joyful Child in 1990 after receiving a UNICEF award for her book Joyful Child: A Sourcebook of Activities and Ideas for Releasing Children's Natural Joy. She has trained facilitators all over the country to teach the Joyful Child classes to parents and teachers. Soon she will be training facilitators to take the "Activating Inner Joy" seminar across the country. She says that there is a clamor among the general public to feel the inner joy that is their birthright and this new seminar is and answer to that need. Peggy reminds us that "Joy is an inside job" because it is the feeling component of love -- that unconditional love of self and others. Her favorite definition of joy comes from the ageless wisdom teachings: "Joy is a quality of the soul and is realized when personality and soul are in alignment." That is why, she says, that joy and ordinary happiness are not the same thing. Peggy loves to share information on how healthy Joy is for us. It heals, nurtures, and expands us physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. This is because it raises our vibrations, she explains. She also reminds us that our joy is longing to be expressed and that there will be many opportunities to do that in this unique playshop. There will be creative expression activities, movement, dance, meaningful exchanges, awareness expanding games, and lightening up through laughter. The Seminar is Nov.11 from 9 am to 5:30. A Bonus Evening is also available at no extra charge. Lizard Head Hall is in West Sedona,AZ on Hwy 89A behind Nationwide UPS. The fee of $75 per person includes take-home materials. I don't know answers to the specific questions you ask, but I can recommend the book _Fit for Life_ which offers ways of using both cooked and raw foods in ways that are very healthy (healthy afa cooked goes, anyway:)). It's probably more than 50% raw and follows natural hygiene food combining principles. I've been able to pretty much follow it for extended periods of time - while surrounded by followers/proponents of SAD. It's easy to follow the principles and still get alot of raw - which of course, is better than no raw. It always helps me to remember that the benefits of raw are 'dose dependent' - - meaning the more I get the better for me.....and the the *risks* of cooked are also dose dependent - meaning that the more cooked I get, the more risk for me.....keeping in mind this dose dependent relationship keeps me doing more raw than not. it's the same mindset i've used to keep breastfeeding my daughter during the tough times (nursing strikes, biting, increased night nursing).....the more human milk she gets, the better off she is...... katherine in atl - --- RAWLIFE- faq at http://www.rawtimes.com/rawlife.html subscriptions, problems, questions, mailto:webmaster@rawtimes.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 09 Nov 2000 10:25:23 -0800 From: "Hal R. You seem to have already resigned yourself to eating cooked again, I assume because it is comforting. If this is the case, then my recommendation would be the more raw the better. For about one year before going "all the way", I was "all raw until dinner". This was VERY EASY for me; I did not even think of cooked until my drive home from work. If you do go back to cooked, I would not under any circumstances incorporate meat, it's just too poison, and I would try to make ALL of my veggies organic. If you have not completely given up, then you should grab your bootstraps and pull yourself up out of that morass of dis-ease that is the SAD, find, use and keep a NETWORK (this list is one) of people who can boost your spirits when you're down, and do your utmost to eliminate temptation. I also would recommend reading Fit For Life (thanks, Katherine!), and to boost your spirits right now, try a glass of fresh apple cranberry juice (three apples and about 25 or 30 cranberries).
