Subject: Re: your new book

I love you website. Your new book sounds intriguing; a great place for a
"newbie" like me to begin. I love to see things like a daily menu plan.
Right now, I would love to see in writing a proposed plan for a month
for a single person. This plan would include, 1)the menus for that month
2) the shopping list for the month, broken down by the week 3) the
preparation SCHEDULE for each week! This is what is bogging me down. I
have a full time job and it seems like I'm spending an inordinate amount
of time studying cookbooks, trying to think far enough in advance to
soak, sprout, dehydrate, blend, etc

I would like to know approximately how much it will cost me to eat raw
foods, per month, so I can budget this. I can't know this until I know
how many pounds of nuts, seeds and grains I might use in a month--to buy
in bulk.Then add the produce.

Do you have a SIMPLE shedule I could follow? What do YOU do? I get tired
of salads every day.

BTW. I'm still looking for housemate(s) to share raw food support and
household expenses with, in Seattle. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Stay peaceful--Linda

Hi Alan, I am not an expert at all, just ideas from my reading about the
colon.
They indicate that colon is also used for purification of the body of dead
cells that happen continually. Also other cleansing takes place, besides the
skin and urinary outlets. Some bulk like psyllium or something like that they
say is needed. Somebody else might know on this topic more?

Hi Nomi,

So you don't agree with David Klein, because you are no longer 100% raw? You
found 100% too hard to live on and you are now 80%, is that correct? Or is
it the whole spice thing you don't like because you can't make your recipes

You don't like the simple raw food diet? These are just some things I have

Boy, you really like to be dictated to, don't you? Why not just peel and
eat some fruit just as it comes from nature when it's in a ripe condition
and blenderize some green (or other) vegetables in whatever combinations
taste good to you and eat them like a cold soup? OK, add a handful of
nuts or seeds to the blender too, presoaked in water overnight and
rinsed, preferably. Who needs "cookbooks"?

>I would like to know approximately how much it will cost me to eat raw
>foods, per month, so I can budget this.

Depends on how hungry you are and how high a quality of produce you want
to buy (organic is recommended). If you want to save money, making your
own sprouts is a good way. Costs me roughly $300/month rarely sprouting
and eating 90%+ organic. Depending on where you live and how available
quality food is at reasonable prices, how much you eat, and how much of
your own food you grow and to what standards, your mileage will vary.

Sharon,

>I would really like to see a picture of you. Are you muscular?

Sorry, but I work out more on this keyboard than with weights (probably
to my own detriment). Even if I did, I'd be the small, wiry type, not
the beefy jock type. Small-boned, not muscular, but without much fat
either. For a picture (a few years out of date), see
www.rawtimes.com/p-bavery.html.

> it does not sound healthy and I think this scares alot of people off.

People are conditioned to think weight = health for some strange reason,
which is just about opposite to the truth. I keep having fatsos that
have had triple bypasses and pacemaker implants come up to me and say
things like, "We've got to fatten you up. You're too skinny." Well, my
own heart beats just fine on its own at this weight without all the
artificial assistance these people require to keep going.

Sorry, but I don't intend to become overweight just to satisfy somebody
else's definition of health, and musclebuilding just isn't a big priority
in my life right now. It takes time, dedication, and a lot of work to do
it right -- but it's the only proper way to gain weight (in other words,
if you want to gain something, gain muscle, not fat).

Alan,

I think jr would put them on his website when he gets back from vacation

Subject: ideal diet?

I submit again my comment of a few days ago.

I am convinced by the literature that a raw food, perhaps a raw fruit
diet is the ideal one for man.
However, major doubts are raised in my mind by the fact that I never
read
or hear about long-living people (actual people as opposed to
statistics) consuming a raw food diet. By this I mean, people who
actually have a birth certificate as proof.
Sure, maybe there is some obscure tribe where they live to 120 or 140
but the birth certificate carries much more weight in my mind. Even the
rare raw food eater in the modern documented world should absolutely
leave the rest of the population for dead (ha! ha!) in the longevity
stakes if the raw food diet really is superior.
I'm not trying to be critical - just searching for the truth.

MIGHT IT BE THAT GENETICS, RATHER THAN DIET, HAS A FAR GREATER PART TO
PLAY IN LONGEVITY THAN WE WISH WERE TRUE?

Regards

Guy Goddard

Guy,

Lots of things influence longevity besides diet. To name a few: heredity,
mental attitude, exercise, pollution, wars. It's 3:00 a.m. and I could
probably think of more if . . . oh, yeah, getting enough sleep is another.
The list could go on and on. The entertainer George Burns, who lived to be
100, spoke about the importance of loving what you do for a living. I guess
in his case that was more important than the harm his cigars were causing
him. If anybody thinks that raw food alone is the key to long life, they
are deluding themselves.

I would also suggest that to adopt a raw food diet (or any diet) primarily
so that one will live longer may be counterproductive. A future-oriented
strategy such as this is based in fear. Living in the here and now
eliminates fear, leads to enlightenment, and, as a fringe benefit, will
probably also extend one's lifespan.

Still, it might be interesting to see how many names of long-lived raw
foodists we could come up with. The only one I know about (or, more
accurately, have read about) is Dr. Norman Walker, who supposedly lived to
be 108 or so.

Hi Guy and others, I think you are correct that genetics has the major effect
on our longevity, but that is something that we do not have any choice. The
one thing that we have choice, is our lifestyle -- are we at peace with
ourselves, do we have that unconditional love to all and then do we have a
diet that is the very best for us?
This gives us individually the best quality and longevity according to our
genetics, don't you think? It does not take any intelligence to have a lousy
diet, but it does take a little thinking to have the courage for superior
lifestyle.

<< I submit again my comment of a few days ago.

I'm not trying to be critical -- just searching for the truth.

MIGHT IT BE THAT GENETICS, RATHER THAN DIET, HAS A FAR GREATER PART TO
PLAY IN LONGEVITY THAN WE WISH WERE TRUE?

But fear, Mr. Hovila, does not fall upon us
from the sky: it springs, on the contrary, from our very flesh
and blood. Negative thoughts and negative emotions are produced
by a sick physio-neurology which, in turn, is the inevitable
and inesorable product of dietetic transgression.

Staging positive thoughts and emotions is
just a show that we can sustain only for awhile and at the cost
of a considerable expenditure of energy. And when the show is
over, we find ourselves back with the reality of our toxic Or-
      ganisms, our perverted physiologies.

We should face the problem *where* it occurs,
not where its symptoms are manifested.

                         My best regards,

                                                   jb Mirabile-caruso.

What puzzles me is how people live to 119 (a woman in DC died yesterday) on a
SAD diet....? What it tells me intuitively that while an ideal diet is
desirable, there is so much more to diet that we don't know (yet). I think
the pesticides of the last years have proportionally more impact than the
"cooked" diet....

I think this language "superior" is judgmental...a better choice might be
"different" lifestyle...:-)

Subject: over exercising

 Hi Everyone

I just got back from an absolutely awesome early morning bike ride - wow
this early morning fl weather. As I was riding some things came to mind.
Over this last summer I read a lot of health related books and several of
them mentioned to not over exercise but to take it easy. A certain amount of
exercise is good but beyond that you are only tearing your self down.
Witness the early demise of professional athletes like cyclist and runners
they are basically history at 32. I myself have vowed to never compete in
anything any more but especially athletics. It's so easy to get caught up in
all of that here with all of these racers on the road. But its so much nicer
to just relax and enjoy the time and the scenery. Then I thought about our
friend Gunner and wondered if this message would have pertained to him. So
have a happy new year and don't over do it, we're in this for the long run.
Time for some fresh made v8 juice : )

... I meant Georgia, of course ... we seem to go from not too cold to very
hot and too dry (or too humid), no happy medium, in just a few weeks and
that makes it very difficult to grow greens... GunP
