Hey, since I've gone raw (about 6 weks now), I've found that I no longer
bite my fingernails. This is the first time in most of my life where I've
had all my nails. Anyone else have something like this happen to them, or
am I just a weirdo? ;>)

Best we ever heard so far is that if we use a regular juicer -- we should
drink it now. The Green Power juicer -- they say, that if filled in a
container will keep for few days.

I do already have info from Hallelujah Acres and the Green Power, but they
don't quote any particular study to verify their findings, and as the man
points out, after several hours in the fridge they all still start "turning,"
indicating oxidation.

Why does he have to juice it the night before? Juicing is processing, which
alters the organizing energies of the food.

I don't juice, but use a blender to make smoothies. I find they just don't
taste or feel the same after the stuff has sit for more than a hour. I try
to get that stuff down the hatch with as little processing and as soon as
possible. My sence, though, is that I'm still hooked on processing food,
even raw stuff. Some days when I just eat everything whole, I feel the
best. Remember we use to pick it right off the plant and stick it right in
our mouths. That's fresh! His teeth (and I'm assuming he has teeth) are
probably the best juicer he could find.

Sorry to give you the rhetoric, not the scientific stuff you were looking
for. There are lots of juicing books around too. They might have more of
the info you want.

Andrea,

How much raw do you eat? Do you have constipation? Usually eczema is
caused by the normal routes of elimination getting clogged up, so the
skin opens to give the body an emergency route of elimination.

I hope you are not eating roasted nuts. These can be very clogging and
toxic.

Ben,

If she could fast for awhile, that would be even better. A week would
probably be long enough to clear up the eczema, but it might come back if
the diet weren't upgraded after the fast.

Gerry,

Of course, greens are pretty high in protein too, especially in juiced or
powdered form.

>ps: the oils, usually found in combination with concentrated protein,

A 70-year-old long time near raw foodist woman I know says that when she
stays away from concentrated fats, like avos (she doesn't eat nuts and
seeds at all), she doesn't need reading glasses, but the fats make
reading glasses necessary.

I have been nearsighted since about 3rd grade and all raw for nearly 7
years now, yet my eyesight is still slowly getting worse, so I don't have
all the answers either.

>Can anyone direct me to "official" info on how long it takes for
vegetable
>(carrot/green) juice to oxidize?

I don't know of any "official" figures. They would be meaningless
anyway, as the rate of oxidation will depend on how the juice was made
(which juicer), how fresh the raw materials were when they were juiced,
and the storage temperature and oxygen exposure in the storage container
(a full container would last longer than a half full one).

You can usually tell by taste whether it has appreciably spoiled. With
the Acme juicer, I've found carrot/beet/green mixtures to spoil in a
couple days in the fridge. With added vitamin C crystals (1/4 tsp or 1
gram per pint of juice), the taste doesn't change for about a week. I
used to routinely add vitamin C powder to fresh juices as a preservative
when I was drinking juice regularly.

>A man who's concerned he's wasting his time going to the effort of
juicing
>the night before if much of the nutritional value is lost, wants not
>"heresay" but "official" scientific data.

The "waste" is more than compensated by the increased concentration of
nutrients. You can drink a lot more carrots or other vegetables than you
can eat. Whole vegetables also lose nutrients in storage, BTW.

David,

>My last long fast was 16 days aproximately ten years ago. I have done
>some two day fasts since then. Hope this is what you were interested

Is this because you no longer feel the need to fast or some other reason?
Paul Bragg took 10-day fasts 4 times a year during his adult life as
preventive "medicine." I myself am trying to do 2 fasts a year, but I
still have rejuvenative work to do, not just preventive maintenance.

Tom,

We're fellow weirdos, Tom. Ever since mid-20's I've had an
uncontrollable "picking at the cuticles until the skin is a bloody mess"
habit. On raw, this habit vanishes for various periods of time, but
tends to come back (in a milder form) when I eat too much protein.
Perhaps this nervous habit is a way the body forces itself to use up
excess protein consumption (rebuilding tissue). I suppose being calmer
and less nervous overall has something to do with it too.

I've been all raw for 3 1/2 months, but I have this terribly itchy rash,

Actually, I was almost wondering the other night laying in my waterbed

Thanks in advance, I'm itching for relief!

Subject: pfafia, minerals, cancer

hi everybody:)
another concern about cancer and my mother...
some days ago i heard about a product called PFAFIA.
it's from a tree in southamerica. a couple of years ago
"we" discovered it here in the west as a remarkable cure
for cancer (among lots of other things).
its is said to improve the immune system, having 20 of aminoacids
and other stuff.
anybody else heard of this??
pfafia is a so called adaptogene (like schizandra, ginseng...)
which is a very strong "antioxidant" (=the warriors against the
free radicals).
i read an article about it yesterday, and it was extremely interresting.

another thing about fasting (which i'm not either against or for)-
do you consider it a good thing that the metabolism decreases, and that the
functions of the vital organs such as liver and brain, also decreases
radically? and that you are dehydrating, and losing muscles?
just wondering...

thirdly-about minerals...
we need about 90 nutritions every day: 60 minerals, about 16 vitamins and 12
(oh dear i really don't know the word for "spårämnen" sorry) and 3 essential
fat-acids.
if we are aware, we may get the vitamins and the fat-acids by eating fruits
and veggies...but the 60 minerals...

we all know that the soil is "poor" nowadays and if there are no minerals in
the soil, the fruits and veggies can't take up any minerals! so, we lack a
whole lot of minerals, and the cells aren't doing their work properly!
people in tibet, or in armenia, are often up to 130-140 years old.
why? because they get much nutrition and much minerals. the soil isn't poor,
and up in the mountains there is something called
"glacier-milk" (i do hope you understand my swenglish!)
this "milk" is water from high in the mountains, and it's so full of
minerals that it looks like milk!
and these people doesn't have cancer or heart-diseases or diabetes or
anything!
i think this was amazing to read about don't you?
i can't put it as nicely or wisely as the doctor-veterinary-nutritionist who
had the speech, but i will be back with his name...
as he started working as a vet, he realised after thousands of cases, that
what animals - and people - die from is lack in nutrition!
all the farmers know what to give their cows and pigs when they show
symptoms of ...whatever...but the doctors doesn't study any
"nutriotion-science" and they get money for doing lots of surgery..

the conclusion is however that, if we are supposed to function optimally, we
(us living in western-part of the world where the soil is poor) have to take
food supplies - minerals in the colloid form - very important, because the
colloid minerals can be taken up by the intestines by 98 %. otherwise we
just have to move to some mountain top somewhere where we all can get
mineral rich glacier-milk!!:):)

i'd rather pee some excess minerals out in the loo, rather than be
deficient!:)

please give comments on this, and especially if you've heard about the
PFAFIA.

this became more than i intended to, but i hope you found it interresting
too!

lots of love
again- sorry for my english, some words i just don't know ,if there is
something that you just don't understand , please ask, and i will try and
look the word up.

Babette

From: Rene Beresford <fruitnet@ozemail.com.au>
Subject: Securing the Health of Children

To all concerned people of the Raw Food/Fruit community.

According to the here under quoted messages, it appears that Ralph
Cinque has slightly reduced his original threat of calling the police in
the event when children show nutritional needs which were not being
met, in HIS opinion!
However, the statement: "I would take whatever action was necessary"
could mean "anything", including STILL calling the police and "Health
Welfare" (?) authorities! He has only withdrawn the word "police", and
the "threat" still stands as is! Read it carefully!

A QUESTION: Mr. Cinque, HOW do you intend your actions to be on the
thousands, sorry, hundreds of thousands of children, in the USA alone,
who are chronically ill and sick due to the consumption of the
"Omnivores" diet, due to the lack of education of parents in proper
nutrition, due to a medical profession which still do NOT include
nutrition in their curriculum, due to the injections of poisonous
vaccinations, due to medicinal drugs, all of which contain poisons,
given to children, due to parents still ignorant of the supreme NATURAL
raw food and fruit diet.
What will be your action against those parents, against those doctors,
will you call the police and Government Health Officials in particular
who actually support the medical profession's ignorance on nutrition.
Please let us know! I expect a proper answer to this question from you,
so we can all learn from your wisdom as a Hygienist!
You are, of course, aware that adult diseases are already creeping
"DOWN" onto children? You are, of course aware of the multitude of
obese children? Well, with your knowledge on how to direct parents on
what YOU feel is the right nutrition, you should be well informed about
the state the USA children are in and also that this is due to the above
mentioned facts.
As also Dana stated, what about if parents do not listen to YOUR advice
on nutrition?
I think that not only I , but all of the Raw food and Fruit community
are eager to hear your proper answer on all of the above.
I trust you are aware that your attitude has been exposed to the whole
of the community at large. I, and I am sure ALL of us, would like you
to "See the LIGHT" and come down from your belligerent attitude and
rather make this a friendly debatable exercise instead of threats.
Peaceful Health to all. Rene.

Dear Ralph,
It would have been wonderful had you acknowledged the harm
to health done by your original threat and apologised for it. However,
at
least you have backed down from your previous belligerent attiutude
which
is
a step in the right direction.

We must remember Ralph, that a high percentage of children today fed on
conventional diets and lifestyles have diseases related to faulty
nutrition.
The doctors of these children are not correcting their faulty nutrition,

as very few doctors are educated in nutrition. Instead doctors are
giving children drugs and other treatments which complicate and compound

their diseases. What can one do against a system which perpetuates
chronic
disease in children like this? A system which seeks to make
vaccination
compulsory for children despite all the evidence of the harmful effects
of
vaccination. We have a medical system which does not train its
practitioners in healthful living and nutrition. What action do you
take
Ralph when parents do not listen to your Hygienic, nutritional advice in

relation to themselves or their children? Which benevolent and wise
system
of health care authorities do you call upon to secure the health of
children?

Dana

adding apple as I thought it would add too much unnecessary "sugar." Now I
use it regularly and find some "odd" people who find regular carrot juice too

We're fellow weirdos, Tom. Ever since mid-20's I've had an
uncontrollable "picking at the cuticles until the skin is a bloody mess"
habit. On raw, this habit vanishes for various periods of time, but
tends to come back (in a milder form) when I eat too much protein.
Perhaps this nervous habit is a way the body forces itself to use up
excess protein consumption (rebuilding tissue). I suppose being calmer
and less nervous overall has something to do with it too.

- --Personally, I think too much protein in the form of sprouts, seeds, nuts,
etc., and not enough calming greens, has much to do with that.

Hi Kendall, I have been reading some of your statements and it looks like you
do some philosophical thinking. Or thinking period, because there is not much
thinking these days and the result is -- "we can become defensive and
viscous." Or are we also loosing our guidelines for life? Do we have a

is there some absolutes?
What is the answer?

Hi David in BC,
You do have interesting comments about juicing. It is great to share what
each has found out for himself.
You also know how some feel, while it is not quite natural to have juice, but
it seems to give the large amounts of nutrients in the quickest way?
Specially if you have some sickness, what you think about that?
God's love to you,
Peter from Md.

Hi Gerry, I see an again interesting points being made,
On Barley Green, as you know, AIM distributors say that according to Dr.
Yoshihide Hagiwara, the additives are necessary for patented process -
otherwise the powdered juice will very rapidly oxidize, that supposedly makes
other processes not that effective?
I have used these other products - Just Barley, Green Kamut - they say: 100%
juice, No fillers, binders, starches or dextrines - You can reach them at 800
- - 452 - 6884. in CA (I think that they are still in business).
The problem is that everybody says that their product is the best? Only
problem I had that the powder is little harder to mix (very light) and
according "experts" nutritional value does not stay around?? So far I have
been going with Dr.Y.Hagiwara's research.

Hi Peter,

I think that raw juice is fine, but I prefer to consume it right away after
making it. That's not to say that I always can. There is a new raw juice
company that's started up in Vancouver, Happy Planet, and they are doing
quite well. There are also a lot of juice bars around now, where you can
get the stuff fresh juiced on the spot (some even use organic produce!).
It's encouraging to see that the larger population is starting to value raw
food, even if it sits in the fridge for awhile, it's going to be way better
than the pasturized and bottled sugar-water that most people drink.

Thanks for your coments.

David.
Vancouver, BC

P.S. Gee maybe it's time to dust off my Champion.

Subject: checking in

Hello Everyone-Just checking in to say that I have been raw since mid-August
and eveything is changing. I woke up feeling fluish on Monday so an old time
Natural Hygiene friend suggested I fast. I had a colonic treatment scheduled
(first ever) that day that I went to and a massage. I fasted 2 days and
still felt terrible-chills, sniffles, respiratory difficulty.

I broke the fast on day 3. My mind would not leave me alone!! It kept
thinking about FOOD and woundn't stop! I have been staying in bed because
symptoms got worse. This is the first time I haven't taken any medicine for
them, though!!

The amazing thing is that I have lost about 10lbs. I have no idea if it
will stay off but at least something is moving which is a tremendous change
that I have been hoping for. I have been overweight for years as a result of
overeating, rheumatoid arthritis and depression resulting in endless joint
and muscle problems.

Already, most of the arthritic symptoms are gone! As is my snorring!

I suppose I am going through a kind of detox. But it's been a long time since
I've been this sick.

Thanks for all the great info. I am committed to this way of living and the
more I read the more I deeply believe it is the answer to solving my long
term health problems.

Barbara from Santa Cruz, Ca.
